Entry Fees: Each dancer is responsible to pay for their own entry fees for each competition. $150 per kid, per dance, per competition.
(Example: 1 dancer in 1 routine for 3 competitions= $450 total)

Once it is decided what routines your dancer will be competing with, you will be invoiced for the entry fees and all competition fees. This balance must be paid for by the date listed on the invoice. We will be offering optional fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for entry fees. If your dancer earns more money with the fundraisers than what their entry fees cost, the over amount can go towards costumes, comp jackets and regular scheduled classes! All fees must be paid on time. Any missed deadlines will result in a $50 late fee. If missed deadlines are still not met after the late fee charge, the dancer will not be performing any competition routines. No refunds will be given for competition fees. If a student drops out of routine after they are set, a $30 drop fee will occur.

Rehearsal Time:

Each dancer will receive 30-minute FOCUSED practice sessions per routine, designed to help them refine their technique and performance quality. To make the most of these sessions, dancers should arrive warmed up, stretched, and ready to work.

Tailored Training: Each practice will focus on the dancer’s unique strengths, abilities, and performance style.

Comprehensive Approach: Strength, flexibility, and technique training will be incorporated to build endurance and prevent injuries.

Scheduling Considerations: If a dancer is involved in multiple competition routines or regular-season classes, we will do our best to coordinate rehearsal times conveniently.

Rehearsal time is where good dancers become great performers! Come ready to work hard, push your limits, and take your dancing to the next level!

It is required that all competition dancers participate in a minimum of one recreational dance class at 5th Street Dance. Jazz/Lyrical and Tumbling are great opportunities to work on skills outside of competition practices, although any recreation class will work towards the requirement.

Summer Classes:

We are excited to offer summer training classes for seasoned competition dancers and those interested in trying out for the team! These classes are designed to challenge our dancers, with a strong focus on technique, skills, strength, and flexibility and are the perfect way to build confidence before the season starts.

Class Format: 90-minute sessions, held once per week.
Cost: $20 per class.
Minimum Requirement: Dancers must attend at least three summer classes to be eligible for tryouts—but more classes are encouraged for maximum improvement!

Tryouts:

This summer, in late July or early August, we will be hosting MANDATORY tryouts for returning competition dancers ages 10+ and new members who want to join the team. Tryout scores will determine which types of routines (group, solo, duet, etc.) each dancer qualifies for. Once placements are determined, dancers will have the opportunity to choose which routines they’d like to compete in.

Our guest judges will be experienced competitive dancers, NOT your competition coaches, ensuring fair and unbiased scoring.

Returning competition dancers ages 5-9: Tryouts are optional, and scores will not determine placements. However, it’s a great opportunity to gain experience!

New dancers ages 5-9: Tryouts are mandatory and will serve as a skill assessment rather than a placement determination.

To participate in tryouts, ALL tuition, costume, and entry fee balances must be up to date, and dancers must meet the required summer class attendance. No exceptions!

Behavior Expectations:

Being part of the 5th Street Dance competition team means committing to a positive, supportive, and drama-free environment for everyone! Our team thrives on respect, focus, and teamwork—let’s keep that energy going!

  • ●  Rehearsals: Cell phones and Apple Watches are not allowed. Dancers should arrive focused and ready to work.

  • ●  Respect is key! Dancers and parents must always treat instructors, teammates, and other families with kindness and professionalism.

  • ●  Sportsmanship matters. Not every competition result will go your way, and that’s okay! Keep a positive attitude and support your teammates.

  • ●  At competitions: No cell phones on stage during awards and every 5th Street Dancer will sit with the 5th Street Dance team on stage. Represent 5th Street Dance with pride—be respectful to judges, competition staff, other teams, but also your teammates, your teachers and your family members as well.

  • If behavior expectations are not met:

  1. First offense: A verbal or written warning will be issued.

  2. Continued issues: The behavior will be considered bullying, and our studio bullying

policy will be enforced. The dancer will be removed from the competition team with no refund.

Let’s create an encouraging and fun atmosphere where everyone can grow and shine!

Competition Placements:

Competition companies place students in their correct age division and in performance levels mostly according to their weekly studio practice hours. Each competition does this differently, but an example of placement is below. Your competition coaches will ultimately determine which level each routine will compete in based on skill level and how ready we feel they are based on how they practice.

Beginners = 4 hours or less per week in class

Intermediate = 5 - 7 hours per week in class

Advanced = 7+ hours per week in class

Beginners = Little to no competition experience. Must have mastered these skills: Single-Double Pirouettes and Coupes Grand Jetes, Splits, Chaines

Intermediate = Previous competition experience. Must have mastered these skills: All beginner skills + Triple Pirouettes and Coupes, Starting Al La Secondes, Front and Back Walkovers, Russians, Tilts, Firebirds, Scorpions, Needles, Leg Holds, Calypsos, Toe Touches, etc.

Advanced = Previous competition experience. Must have mastered these skills: All intermediate skills + Quad Pirouettes and Coupes, Al La Secondes, Fouettes, Switch Leaps, Turning C Jumps, etc.

Open communication is very important for this season to go smoothly. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Text message or email is the best way to get a quick response. Any messages or calls after 8p will be returned the next business day.
